70th Birthday foil at Felixstowe:)
Can’t believe I have made it to 70 I still think I am 18 its only when I look in the mirror I think differantely and my knees tell me I am getting on abit:) Things were looking very promising for a birthday sail and with the wind wsw to sw The Manor ws the only local option and I wanted to get down fairly early to make the most of the 10.30 low water. Had a relaxing start with Mag who made in a cool card and I had loads of wonderful messages on Facebook. Then with the breze building it was time to hitch the trailer and head to the beach, arriving at Squiz Lane around 10.30 as the sun started to make an appearance:) Foil board was quickly set up, sail choice was harder with the wind a fraction off, there looked a good breeze out to sea so I took a chance with my Tushingham Bolt 5.5. Shortie on as the mild weather continues I was on the water at 11 and thought I had made a mistake with the sail rigging too small but I reached the wind line 200/300m offshore and did not look back for the best part of three hours as it turned out to be one of my best ever foil sessions at Felixstowe ever. I did a few long runs out in smooth water, just me in the sunshine, just lovely whizzing over the waves:) I ended up just past The Dip and started the long beat back with the wind now over 20 knots and the sea picking up, love a beat in a big sea:) I got back in 6 tacks doing runs two mile runs out, back at The Manor I checked my gps and discovered I had sailed around 30 miles and I wanted to sail around 70 km to match my 70 years so carried on, I now had company on the water with Ial foiling and Al Wiz finning:) A few runs to Wadgate and a quick trip to the pier and I reached my target, actually sailing 75 km. with two 13 knot hours so a really first rate session:)
Then home to find Mag had made the most amazing 70th Birthday cake, she is a star, the Grandson is travelling down to help me celebrate, then tomorrow I am off to Portman Road to watch Ipswich play, treated by my son Robert, fingers crossed their great form continues then home for a family meal with both Grandchildren and Sunday we are having a few family and friends round. Going to be a great weekend:)
